"To shamans everything in the physical universe is alive and imbued with spirit or life force, particularly crystals. Shamans, intermediaries between the physical and spiritual levels of being, traditionally used crystals for soul retrieval, empowerment, divination and journeying between the worlds to seek insights and solutions. All facilitated by crystals. Certain crystals even have specific allies, power animals or spirit beings, connected to them to assist you in your quest." Judy Hall

In this monthly series, participants will gain a foundation for how to select, cleanse, dedicate, activate and work with crystals. Each session will include a healing share as well as a shamanic journey, as assisted by the featured crystal.

Session 17 is dedicated to Aquamarine, The Stone of Courage: In crystal healing Aquamarine is seen to be a stone of courage.  It sharpens the intuition and encourages clairvoyance, and for these reasons is beneficial to be used during meditation.  Judy Hall (Crystal Bible) says that Aquamarine in ancient times was believed to counteract the forces of darkness and procure favor from the spirits.

Aquamarine evokes the purity of crystalline waters and the exhilaration and relaxation of the sea. It is calming, soothing, and cleansing, and inspires truth, trust and letting go. In ancient lore, Aquamarine was believed to be the treasure of mermaids and was used by sailors as a talisman of good luck, fearlessness, and protection. It was also considered a stone of eternal youth and happiness.

The name Aquamarine comes from the Latin aqua marinus, meaning "water of the sea," and refers to its sparkling ocean-like color. The pale blue, transparent crystal is a member of the Beryl family. Its color, sometimes bluish green, is caused by iron oxides within the chemical makeup of the stone. Ancient seers considered it to be under the influence of the moon, an orb exerting very great magnetic influence. Present-day supporters of crystal-gazing suggest that when using an Aquamarine to view coming events, do so when the moon is increasing. The magnetism of the moon on the included iron oxides will strengthen the stone's forecasting ability.

Aquamarine embodies all things connected to the sea, as well as those things relating to Heaven, reflected on the surface of the water. It becomes a mirror, reflecting itself indefinitely, making it possible to discover hidden meanings of reality. As a stone of symmetries, it is conducive for meditation and revelation, a stone of prophets, shamans, healers, and mystics. It also allows us to explore the darkest depths of our souls, face to face with ourselves, and with others. Aquamarine has an affinity with sensitive people.  It can invoke tolerance of others and can help one overcome being judgemental. It is thought to be supportive for those overwhelmed by responsibility and is said to clarify a perception, clear the mind and unravel the confusion.

It helps one free oneself of attachments to old patterns, relationships and ways of being and helps one let go of the past. It is excellent for working with grief, as it assists one in fully releasing attachment to the body of a loved one while retaining a positive emotional connection to the loved one’s spiritual being.

A stone of natural justice, Aquamarine utilizes compromise and negotiation and gives quiet courage and clear reasoned words in confrontational situations. Pass Aquamarine over any written complaints you receive or before you send any out, wear or carry Aquamarine when visiting your child's school because of a complaint, or when resolving neighborhood disputes over parking or boundaries.

Aquamarine is perhaps the strongest stone for clearing and activating the Throat Chakra*. It stimulates energy from the heart to the throat, allowing one's deepest and heartfelt truth to be communicated.

*The Throat Chakra is the voice of the body, a pressure valve that allows the energy from the other chakras to be expressed. If it is blocked or out of balance, it can affect the health of the other chakras. In balance, it allows for the expression of what we think and what we feel. We can communicate our ideas, beliefs, and emotions. When the throat chakra is in balance and open, we can bring our personal truth out into the world. We have an easy flow of energy within the body and spirit. The energy that springs upward from the lower chakras can continue its path enabling free expression and natural release.

Uses:

  • A stone of release and a powerful cleansing agent for the emotional body. Shields the aura and balance the chakras.

  • It is a combination of the heart and throat chakra colors and is said to encourage the warmth of the heart during communication.

  • Helps to reduce addictive tendencies, whether that be to food, alcohol or drugs… or unhealthy people.

  • Useful for helping with closure on all levels.

  • Cools and soothe fears and increase psychic sensitivity.

  • Highly protective during pregnancy, it helps to guard both mother and baby against harm and is thought to discourage miscarriage.

  • In physical healing, Aquamarine is thought to be helpful for sore throats, swollen glands, and thyroid problems.

  • Often given as a love token or eternity ring, and increases commitment and fidelity "as long as the waters of the earth flow."
